Sustainable Development Goals Week 2024 will take place from 20th-29th September. This is Ireland’s 3rd SDG week and it is gaining momentum year on year. With the clock ticking to the 2030 deadline, it is incumbent upon us all to play our part in achieving sustainable development.
Public Libraries are identified as key stakeholders in helping to achieve the 17 goals through awareness raising and the National Public Libraries Strategy supports this aim.
Offaly Libraries will be doing its part by hosting a range of both public and school events.
Over the course of the week we hope to help children and young people understand the 17 Sustainable Development Goals in an age appropriate and fun way. This will be delivered through a range of activities including workshops for teens, themed storytimes, sustainable crafts and family events including movie nights. We will also engage with Offaly schools with a gentle introduction to SDGs delivered online as well as a giant SDG Doodle for children to take part from their classrooms or as part of a library visit.
In-branch book displays and themed bookclubs will also be available for adult audiences.
The global target for achieving our SDGs by 2030 can only be achieved by collective action. Joining the library is a simple cost free action people can take, as borrowing books is a more sustainable way of reading. Join today online or by visiting your local library.
