Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys T.D., recently announced €49,500 for the Peatland Communities of Offaly: Quality of Life, Place & Experience, an additional €5,500 match funding will be provided by Offaly County Council.
This fund will provide technical support which will assist communities to prepare for capital projects associated with the Peatland Communities and identify cluster opportunities for linking tracks, trails and recreational amenities in the peatlands, maximising their involvement in the larger 300+ kms of walking and cycling being developed in the Midlands. This project was submitted in partnership with Offaly Local Development Group.
Offaly County Council Chief Executive, Anna Marie Delaney said “the economic and social benefits of investment in outdoor recreation for Offaly is evident through increased usage of Offaly’s amenities. This project development measure will endeavor to create new opportunities for outdoor amenities for local residents and visitors for Offaly.”
Cathaoirleach Cllr Eddie Fitzpatrick added “investing in outdoor amenities not only promotes a healthier lifestyle but also enhances the overall well-being of the community which positively impacts both the community’s well-being and the local economy.
