Offaly County Council Social Housing Assessment 2023

SUMMARY OF SOCIAL HOUSING ASSESSMENT (SSHA) 2023. PLEASE READ THIS NOTICE IF YOU ARE AN APPLICANT ON THE HOUSING WAITING LIST FOR CO. OFFALY.

The Housing Section of Offaly County Council has commenced a Social Housing Assessment in accordance with Section 21 of the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2009.

Q. What is a Summary of Social Housing Assessment?
A. The Summary of Social Housing Assessment is a review of approved applicants for
social housing supports who are currently on the Social Housing List with Offaly
County Council. The information provided by each relevant approved applicant will
be reassessed under the Social Housing Assessment Regulations 2011 (as amended)
taking into account the applicant’s eligibility and need.

Q. How will the Local Authority contact approved applicants?
A. Offaly County Council will write to the relevant approved applicants on its Social
Housing List using the current address provided by the applicant. If you have
changed accommodation or contact information since the last SSHA please contact
the Housing Section to request an SSHA Update Form, you can also find the forms
required below or collect one from the Birr, Edenderry or Tullamore Municipal District Offices.

The forms must be returned before Friday 15th September 2023.

Q. What will you have to do?
A. Each relevant approved applicant is asked to complete a form and provide
documentary supporting evidence and return this information to Offaly County
Council. (If you have any difficulty with completing this form you can contact the
Housing Section on 057 935 7409 or hna@offalycoco.ie for assistance).

Q. What will happen if I do not return the information requested?
A. If you fail to return this information within the specified time period your application
for Social Housing will be closed and therefore you will not be considered for future
offers of Social Housing Support.

Q. Does this apply to people living in Tullamore and Birr?
A. Yes, housing applicants to the former Town Councils of Tullamore and Birr are now
housing applicants of Offaly County Council and should reply to this Summary of
Social Housing Assessment as well.

Q. Does this apply to Social Housing Applicants in receipt of a Housing Assistance
Payment (HAP)?
A. No, we are not required to include Social Housing Applicants in receipt of Housing
Assistance Payment (HAP) in the current Summary of Social Housing Assessment.

This assessment will establish the housing needs of Co. Offaly. All future lettings of
Offaly County Council’s owned/leased units will be made from this assessment.
As such, it is essential that approved Social Housing Applicants return their forms by
Friday 15th September 2023 to Offaly County Council as per below:
