Little Library Bags for Junior Infants at Offaly Libraries

Little Library Bags are available for children starting school in September 2023 at all branches of Offaly Libraries! This First 5 initiative is a collaboration between the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, funded under the Dormant Accounts Fund, and it aims to support children starting Junior Infants in primary school in September 2023.

The Little Library Bags are free from your local branch of Offaly Libraries, and children starting primary school this year can collect them with their parent/guardian. Inside these lovely bags, which are available in both English and Irish, the children will find:

  • Three books on starting school, making friends, and being comfortable to be yourself
  • A story card on going to the library
  • A postcard to send to your new teacher, or to bring to school to give to your teacher
  • A special library cardholder

This initiative aims to have every child starting school with storybooks in their home and a library membership. Accompanying adults should bring their own photo ID and proof of address to avail of free library membership. The staff of Offaly Libraries look forward to welcoming the children to the library, and wish them well with their school start in September.
