FilmOffaly, Offaly County Council’s Film Commission is pleased to announce that filming has wrapped on For The Cure, a new short film from director and writer Conor McCormick. Filming was made possible thanks to the Film Offaly Short Film Award. This funding initiative aims to foster creative filmmaking in the county, utilising Offaly’s many locations, crew and local businesses. The annual award looks for unique and original stories by talented new filmmakers, professional and novice alike.
Film Offaly’s Darren Lee said “Offaly was one of the first areas in the country to offer an annual bursary for filmmakers. Since its foundation the award has gone from strength to strength and this year’s film is no exception. It’s been a pleasure to welcome the cast and crew to the county.”
The Cure is a mysterious and enigmatic story about a young man who finds himself suddenly unable to speak after a family tragedy. The film was produced by Lorcan O’Hanlon.
When asked about the shoot Mr O’Hanlon said “It’s been a few months of hard work getting here, but it’s been great working with the Council.”
The film was shot in and around the Banagher area over November 12 and 13th, and unlike previous years the team opted to shoot on traditional film stock, rather than digital cameras.
“We’re all excited and delighted with what we got. Offaly’s been a lovely place to shoot in. We found everyone really helpful, and such a kindness and openness with having our whole crew here. Getting to work with the local people has been dream,” Mr McCormick said.
For The Cure will premiere next year, and the competition for Film Offaly’s 2025 award is expected to be launched in late January.
Film Offaly is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the EU Just Transition Fund Programme 2021-2027.
