Offaly County Council in collaboration with Edenderry Library is excited to announce the opening of a Seed Library this February.
The Seed Library will launch in Edenderry Library from the 12th of February 2025.
What is a seed library and how does it work
The Seed Library is a collection of open pollinated organic seeds available free of charge for the community to borrow. A seed library operates similar to a traditional library but instead of book you swap seeds.
Members of the community can ‘check out’ seeds at the beginning of the growing season, plant them, and at the end of the season harvest them and return a portion of the seeds they have saved. Through this project we hope that members of the community will tap into their green side and create a resource within the community that is self-sustaining and invites people explore the gardener within themselves.
Community Impact
The seed Library isn’t just about plants it’s about growing in the community and at home. It promotes a more sustainable way of living for all, supports biodiversity, and brings people together.
