9th Green Flag for Lloyd Park, Tullamore

An Taisce Environmental Education acknowledge Ireland’s best public parks and gardens as Tullamore Municipal District secures its 9th consecutive Green Flag.

Lloyd Town Park is proud to be associated with the International accreditation for public park excellence in Ireland; the Green Flag Award Scheme is the mark of quality parks and green space and is recognised throughout the world. Running for over 25 years, the programme uses eight key criteria headings, with an emphasis on environmental management, for assessments. Both a management framework for each site and an annual condition inspection is conducted through a network of qualified judges.

The judges appointed to Lloyd Town Park for 2024 outlined they really enjoyed their visit to our much-used park stating that the park is; “Very safe – lots of families using the park” and that the park is “very clean” and “everything is well maintained.”

The judges went on to say Lloyd Town Park is “very well signposted and excellent orientation maps at park entrance with excellent map and other information boards on flora and fauna etc.” Judges noted the park has “inclusive exercise equipment which is very good” and the “playground and basketball pitch are in very good condition” and recognised that “work has been done on the playground since last judging visit” as the bandstand and toilet and caretaker facilities were installed during 2024.

Cathaoirleach of Tullamore Municipal District, Cllr. Frank Moran acknowledged those who are involved in maintaining the park to such a high standard, including David Carroll, Park Caretaker, Tullamore Municipal District staff with support from Tullamore Tidy Towns. 

Cllr Moran also thanked his Tullamore Municipal District colleagues for their support under the 2024 General Municipal Allocation which complemented funding received from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media and the Department of Rural and Community Development to upgrade facilities in the park this year.
