Offaly Libraries’ annual Spring Into Storytime programme is now underway, bringing the magic of storytime and reading to life for children and their families! Part of the national Right to Read strategy and co-funded by Creative Ireland, the aim of our programme is to enhance creative engagement levels of our youngest library users and increase visibility of the library service as a creative space within the local community. This is an ideal opportunity for children to experience reading as an activity which is fun, entertaining and allows families to share this happy time together.
Numerous events are happening across the county including Spring-themed crafts, storytime sessions, Spring-themed storytimes, storytimes for classes, competitions, arts and crafts, and a scavenger hunt. Contact your local library to find out more about what’s happening there.
Reading with children and access to books has many important long-term benefits. Children who develop an interest in stories and reading have been found to have greater self-esteem and well-being, greater creativity and imagination, better social and health outcomes, and an overall better quality of life as they get older. The Spring into Storytime initiative is a creative way in which children’s literacy skills can be developed.
Don’t forget, library membership is free and gives you access to the magic of stories and reading all year round with a wide array of books for all ages and activities and events throughout the year including, storytimes, regular book clubs, Lego free play, board games, craft table, movie nights, STEM events and more. The library’s digital collections have so much for everyone and can be accessed from home and include eBooks, eAudiobooks and eComics.
Go ahead, Spring into Storytime!
