School Warden Scheme
Offaly County Council in conjunction with St. Cynoc’s National School Ferbane, operate a Junior School Warden Scheme.
In total over 50 pupils participate and operate the scheme throughout the school year. Their primary aim is to ensure that school children cross public roads on their way to/from school safely. 6th Class with the help of 5th Class, as required, participate in the Scheme.
The schemes have been operating very successfully over the last 20 years. The schemes continued success is due in no small way to the commitment of the Teachers in each school and the school Principals and also the pupils themselves and parents. The children learn road safety at an early age and it is something they bring with them throughout their lives and hopefully will stay with them.
At the end of each year the Junior School Wardens receive certificates of participation which is presented by the Chairperson of the County Council. The Council sponsors the scheme and provide the Wardens’ uniforms, road markings, signage etc. The wardens are all volunteers who do the job because they care about the safety of their fellow students.
Parents & Carers when accompanying children to school are asked to set a good example by using the school warden services provided.
It is important to remember that children will do as you do, not as you say.
