Offaly Fire & Rescue Edenderry Update

There was a great excitement at Edenderry Fire Station to mark the official delivery and hand over of the new state of the art Scania fire engine to Edenderry Fire Brigade.

Offaly Fire and Rescue Service recently took delivery of a new fire engine to serve the community of Edenderry and its surrounding areas. The new Class B fire engine which costs in the region of €450,000 was fully funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.  This new appliance will greatly support the invaluable work of our fire personnel, allowing them to access the latest technology while benefitting from the most up to date safety features.

The fire appliance replaces the 2008 Scania fire engine based at Edenderry Fire Station.  Chief Fire Officer, Eoin O’Ceilleachair confirms the engine “will enhance the ability of Edenderry Fire Brigade to protect their community it serves as well as providing assistance to their neighbouring stations and counties when called upon.”

The appliance is based on the latest Scania P320 chassis and has an integrated crew cab providing seating for up to six firefighters. It comes with an integrated water tank coupled with an on-board Godiva Prima main pump which is capable of pumping out 3,000l of water per minute at an average pressure of 10 bar. It comes equipped with a Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS), a 1,200l/min portable pump, a number of multi-stage ladders, a number of hoses, nozzles and a front-mounted electric winch.  The unit, supplied by HPMP Ltd., based in Tullow, is equipped with the most up-to-date emergency lighting, high-visibility markings and comes fully equipped with many features which represents the very latest in modern fire-fighting technology.

Speaking at the handover event, Cathaoirleach of Edenderry Municipal District, Cllr. Fergus McDonnell commended the Fire Brigade in Edenderry for their dedication and commitment to their service saying: “we are proud of our Fire Service and of your commitment to excellence in all that you do” and that it gives him “great pleasure to see this new state of the art fire engine which will ensure that you are well equipped to respond to any callout.”
