Offaly Libraries are delighted to celebrate Engineer’s Week, March 2nd – 8th, a key staple in our STEAM Programme for 2024. Engineers Week is a yearly celebration of the infinite possibilities that the field of engineering explores and is aimed at schoolage children and teens around the country.
The library service will deliver a dynamic programme of events to inspire the budding engineers of tomorrow by hosting a variety of engaging STEAM activities.
Using creative thinking in design and building is a core tenet of the field, and there will be plenty of those skills on display during a series of Lego ‘Build a Bridge’ Workshops and Freeplay sessions hosted in around the county.
Edenderry Library will host a Fantasy Map Making workshop for teenagers with an interest in civil engineering and design while Birr Library will provide demonstrations of its 3D Printer. Tullamore Library will host a local school for a VEX Robotics workshop, delivered in partnership with Offaly’s STEM Education Officer.
Libraries across the county will also support this initiative with STEAM themed book displays to explain and inspire as well as our online offering of supporting resources including BusyCode for Kids, Online Encyclopedia and free courses available through our online learning platform, Universal Class.
