Local History Talk at Banagher Library

Start: 17 Aug 2023 - 6:30 PM
End: 17 Aug 2023 - 8:00 PM

Local historians Kieran Keenaghan and James Scully will give a interesting presentation, which will provide some interesting insights into the history of the locality. The talk will reveal that an earlier name for Banagher was Áth Cróich where the renowned High-King of Ireland, Turlough O’ Connor built a bridge in the year 1120.  The speakers will explore the Irish writings of Mathew De Renzy, a German merchant, who lived at Clonony Castle, near Banagher in the 1620s. They will also discuss De Renzy’s wife Anne and her wonderful castle, built nearby at Moystown at that time.

This is sure to be a most enjoyable and informative evening in Banagher Library, August 17th at 18.30
