Description
In a move to achieve more of the recommendations under the commissioned Birr Public Realm Plan, a new ‘gateway’ sculpture was commissioned. It is the intention that the sculpture entitled ‘Looking to the Future’ will be seen an innovative response to Birr’s unique rich cultural and environmental heritage.
The sculpture can be seen on the N52 entering Birr at the junction of woodlands. The artist chosen to undertake the commission is Ann Meldon-Hugh is from Kells, Co.Meath. Ann works in bronze, steel and stoneware, her public art work can be seen through out Ireland.
Offaly County Council sourced the funding through pooling per cent for arts scheme funds, which have arisen out of public capital projects in the south of the county.
