Music Generation Offaly Westmeath is a new music education service for children and young people in the counties of Offaly and Westmeath. It is part of Music Generation - Ireland's National Music Education Programme initiated by Music Network and co-funded by U2, The Ireland Funds, The Department of Education & Skills and Local Music Education Partnerships.
Locally, Music Generation Offaly Westmeath is managed by Offaly Westmeath Music Education Partnership and receives financial support from Offaly County Council (Lead Partner), Westmeath County Council and the Athlone and Laois Education Centres.
Offaly Westmeath Music Education Partnership is 'making music happen' guided by the values of equality of access, quality of experience, partnerships, creativity and sustainability.
To do this Music Generation Offaly Westmeath is developing 3 initiatives for young people across Offaly and Westmeath:
1. The Kodály Programme aimed toward pre and primary school pupils;
2. The 'Play an Instrument' Outreach Programme for children and young people aged 9 - 18
3. 'Music in our Lives' Programme - to be developed from 2015
Music Generation Offaly Westmeath aims to make creating music part of young people's lives, to give them life enhancing skills through learning to sing and play instruments, to generate opportunities for children and young people to experience making music with others and to work to achieve this with talented, committed and reflective musicians.
