Once upon a story time
In December 2015 Offaly Libraries launched a pre-school reading programme called “Once upon a story time...”

The programme ran in all Offaly Libraries for members of pre-school age and with participating créches and pre-schools from the 1st December 2015 to the 31st January 2016.
There were 2 elements to the programme: Reading Cards for each child and a Once upon a story-time with a twist competition for the créche/pre-school
Once upon a story time reading cards ( pre-school age childrenwith parents/guardians/créche)
o Reading cards were distributed to participating crèches/pre-schools and were available through the libraries
o Children read 5 books together at home or in crèche/pre-school
o They wrote the names of the 5 books on the reading card
o When all 5 books were finished, children entered the competition on the back page of the reading card & returned the card to their local branch library
o Completed entries were entered into a prize draw. We have some nice pictures of our winners below.

Once upon a story time with a twist (forcréches/pre-schools)
o Participating créches/pre-schools were sent entry form for the “Once upon a story time with a twist...” competition.
o The créche/pre-school were asked to pick one of the 5 stories from the picture on the entry form and together with the children, write their own version of the story... with a twist!
The winner of the competition for pre-schools was Durrow Pre-School. They received a big box of books for themselves and a storytelling session in the library.

In all 213 completed reading cards were returned. Well done to all involved.
