Leap into Reading - 2014

Leap into Reading 2014

Leap into Reading 2014 is an early literacy reading initiative by Offaly Libraries aimed at the 2-6 year old age group to encourage joint reading with young children-whether at home, in school, in creche or in the library. Reading is a  critical skill.  Sharing books together encourages  lifelong readers. Leading experts have proven that reading aloud with children is known to be the single most important activity for building the skills they will require later for learning to read.

Participating Libraries are Edenderry,Tullamore Clara and Birr. These libraries will be in contact with the local creches, playschools, preschools and Junior and Senior Infant classes in their area to arrange either a school visit by library staff or a visit to the library. At this visit each child is given a log book and receives a stamp for each book they’ve read together. Once the log book is completed it is returned to their local library. Each family will receive a certificate of participation and will be entered into a draw for a family prize.
